Surf is the face height at the beach after the swell is filtered for the way Watergate Bay faces. Arrows point to where the swell and wind come from: an arrow pointing up means from the north. Tide is the height at Newquay above chart datum, rising ↑ or falling ↓; the rating drops when the tide is outside the window this break works on. Amber marks the sessions worth setting an alarm for. From Wednesday the swell comes from Météo-France's 10-day model, which is coarser than the 5 km German model used close in. Hours no model reaches are left blank, not shown as flat.

Exposure

Watergate Bay faces north-west. Measured from the seabed, it is open to swell from SW round to N; the brighter a wedge, the deeper the water in that direction and the more of the swell gets in. Anything from behind the headlands scores nothing, however big the buoy says it is.

How Watergate Bay works

Swell
Best from the west.
Wind
Offshore is from the south east; anything with north-west in it is onshore and messes it up.
Tide
all tides.
Getting there
Just off the A39 between Wadebridge and Newquay.

Massive Beach with loads of breaks running along it. Picks up loads of swell so if it's small head here.. but only then. Popular with tourists and Begineers.

21 Jul 2005 · vannessa looks beautifull and the scenery is amazing
18 May 2005 · ian gloucester had a good few mid winter surf's here, big chunky wedges at watergate, where i began sponging its pretty sweet for that
28 Apr 2005 · the dude Lovely beach not fantastic for surfers who like the bigger waves. Has had its big days though. Really good for kitesurfers who do like the waves or learner kitesurfers
31 Mar 2005 · aaron great place to learn lots of room gets good swell but cant handle to much
5 Oct 2004 · Mark Very crowed, but pretty consistant small to mid breaks.
